Junior School Performance 2017
It is often quoted that junior school performance is better than for all through primary schools. This was true in terms of final attainment in 2017 but only just. Despite the higher attainment in junior schools, the progress made through key stage 2 was better in primary schools than in junior schools because on average pupils enter with lower key stage 1 results. This is a common area for fiction between infant and junior schools.
In 2017 there were 1,078 junior schools and 13,676 primary schools with year 6 cohorts (this ignores middle and all through schools). The proportions reaching expected and higher in reading, writing and maths combined were as follows:
