Post 16 Accountability Measures 2016

Post 16 providers will be aware that from 2016 there will be new accountability measures in place and that these will be reported in the January 2017 performance tables for this age group.

The DfE’s publication ‘16 to 19 accountability headline measures: technical guide’ states that the new headline performance measures will shine a light on the progress that students make while at a school or college. This is a fairer reflection, it goes on to say, of how the school or college is performing than looking only at the grades that students achieve.  It further states that the new measures will encourage schools and colleges to focus on achieving the best outcomes for all students, irrespective of their starting points.

The five headline measures from 2015/16 are:

  • Progress – a value added progress measure for academic and Applied General qualifications and a completion and attainment measure for Tech Levels (and Technical Certificates from 2016/17)
  • Attainment
  • English and maths progress measure (for those students who have not achieved at least a grade C at GCSE at the end of key stage 4)
  • Retention
  • Destinations

Full information, including an explanation of these new measures, can be found in the technical guide available on the DfE website at:
